Senior Editor Instructions
The objective of the JDS two-tier reviewing system is to create a high impact, high quality journal, while helping to make the reviewing process more efficient. Senior Editors make decisions on whether submissions will be sent for full review; these decisions play an important role in shaping the scope of the journal. Senior Editors are asked to make a judgment about whether or not a paper could make an interesting, high quality and potentially impactful contribution to the broad data science community. The following criteria are used:
1. Is the work of high quality ?
2. Are the main results clear and interesting ?
3. Are the contributions of the paper significantly new, and not incremental ?
4. Does the paper solve an important problem, or open up a new line of research ?
This first stage of reviewing is completed within three weeks of submission, and authors are promptly notified of the decision.
